Financial Instruments
arrears
Arriérés
Interest or dividends that were not paid on the normal payment date but remain owing. For example, dividends owed to holders of cumulative preferred shares accumulate in a separate account (the arrears account). When dividend payments resume, the arrears must be paid to preferred shareholders before any dividends can be paid to common shareholders.
